Class G Airspace is GONE.

in

Unless I missed a meeting, NavCan has done this without telling us about it.

In summary, ALL uncontrolled airspace is Southern Ontario has been taken away. It's all controlled airspace now. The quality of the map in the attached document is terrible but from what I can tell, the area we do XC in (the yellow area) is now Class E from 3500'asl and up (about 2000'agl). In other words, if your are soaring (ie not looking for a place to land) you are in controlled airspace. You'll need your HAGAR to fly in this area...yes...even if you are 2000'agl over our own field.

Welcome Aboard!

Welcome to two new members...Mark Sanderson and Terry Davidson - nice to have both of you back in the air!

Weekly event email

I've enabled a 'weekly event notification' system. All users will get a single email, once a week showing coming and recent 'event' info. It will show three sections - flights, forecasts and events (fly-ins, meetings, etc). I hope it will help keep all members more involved with club dealings.

Windsor – Toronto – Montreal Airspace and Services Review

in

Below is the text from the attached document....it lays out most of the proposed airspace changes that were discussed at the last NavCan meeting.

It's really concerning as they are now wanting to change the rest of the uncontrolled airspace in SW Ontario to Class E above 2500'agl. That means we can't take the tug above that....ultralights aren't allowed in Class E.

Stay tuned.
Mark

PS - the pictures have been omitted as they are a lot of work to add them all in. Feel free to download and look at the PDF attached at the bottom.

Winch towing possability

in

I've kept in touch with Phil from Windsor. The lure of starting XC in his area and working back home (and beyond if I'd be so lucky) excites me.

Phil is open to visitors...but I'm sure not all of us. He runs a stationary winch and doesn't have a tonne of experience (but sounds like he knows what he's doing) and I am sure can't handle the entire club.

He's also located in Leamington which is real close to Windsor and is sandwiched between Lake Erie and Lake St Clair and that concerns me that it could shut down lift.

"Subscriptions" enabled

Sorry once again IF (I'm not too certain on what the outcome will be) you receive a tonne of emails from the website but I'm playing with a "Subscriptions" module on the website (as opposed to the "Notifications" module I enabled last week).

I am gearing Subscriptions towards a weekly (or could be a monthly) newsletter rather than daily Notifications.

Mark Kowalsky on The List

Mark Kowalsky took up a tandem for a show called "The List". It's a show where they help people check off things they've always wanted to do in life.

Meeting Cancelled - to be re-scheduled

Are we still up for a GPS seminar on Tuesday's meeting? We have elections as well right? Weren't we going to online nominations?)

Bring your GPSs!

Notifications turned on

I've installed a 'notifications' module on the soga.ca site....it sends out daily emails (one email per day) with a list of new or edited content on the site with a 'teaser' of what is on the page with a link directing you to the site.

I've turned everyone's notifications on but if you'd like to change your settings, login and then go to http://soga.ca/user and click on the tab that reads "My notifications settings" at the top of your profile.
