Looks like a great day for local soaring...light winds, the B/S Ratio of 7+ means it 'should' be easy to stay in lift (unlike Canada Day where the B/S was 1 or 2 I think). Lift is light tho....reported at 450fpm (less your sink rate of about 200fpm) - so stick with what lift you have.

This is the 1PM forecast, the 4PM forecast is similar but not quite as good.

Start: 09:28

If you weren't there today you missed the best day I've seen at the field this year. I guess that's not saying much as I've only been out a few times but it was good enough to stay up for almost 4 hr. Lift varied from light to 1000 up (once). Topped out at 4400'. Had my share of luck with a couple of 500' low saves from the field north of the hanger. Bob, Don, Milko, Terry, Troy, and Steve had some good flights also. Hopefully they will post their stories.

Over the last number of weeks, NAV CANADA has contacted a number of customers and stakeholders to assist us in the identification of potential issues with some proposed changes associated with the Windsor, Toronto, Montreal Airspace and Services Review.

NAV CANADA will be hosting a conference call to review the risk analysis and mitigations derived from the issues and concerns which were raised through the consultation.

The Conference Call will be held on Friday July 11th, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.

I has the call-in info if you wish to be on the call.

Not looking good...

Start: 08:24

A tiny bit breezy for local soaring but certainly doable. The B/S ratio is 4-5 so it should be somewhat easy to stay up (theoretically). Good direction for going XC but the B/S ratio drops to 2-3 by 4PM.

DR Jack says it's a solid 5 earlier and going to an 8.

We have scheduled a SOGA club meeting for this coming Saturday July 26th at Steve and Cathy's home in Guelph.

It looks like Sat is a write-off due to thunder-storms....check the forecast in the AM

Now 40% POP, "Some" showers, high of 25, and windier...

A great day to get your feet off the ground. Lift may be light but it should be workable.

Start: 09:16

I must say, it's a perfect (looking) forecast for local soaring. Reasonable lift, light & variable winds...and the buoyancy/sheer (B/S) ratio confirms that with a perfect 10 for all of SWOnt. Even the 10AM b/s ratio is showing between 7 and 10...so it should be soarable then?!

It's a little light wind for going big distance (which is what I have my eye on) so I think I'll stick local (O&R or Triangle).

See you out there.

I'm just so impatient....everytime I fly before the magic 2PM I get bit. :)

I was so itchin' to get some airtime and some XC that at 1:15 I couldn't resist anymore and took to the skies. I had two decent climbs and that was enough to sucker me into going on the course I chose - a 50KM triangle. I even set my flight computer for a 2PM start window (as if I was flying a comp) but I jumped the start anyways and headed North on course.

The Provincials are a great opportunity for experienced contest pilots to be challenged and new cross-country pilots to get experience in a relaxed, fun environment.

The contest will reunite the racing family and introduce fledgling race pilots and their crews into the fold. We plan to run two classes: 1) Club for those wishing to push their skills and gliders (handicapped); and 2) Novice, to introduce pilots to new competition flying or with classic performance gliders (also handicapped).
