Now 40% POP, "Some" showers, high of 25, and windier...

A great day to get your feet off the ground. Lift may be light but it should be workable.

I must say, it's a perfect (looking) forecast for local soaring. Reasonable lift, light & variable winds...and the buoyancy/sheer (B/S) ratio confirms that with a perfect 10 for all of SWOnt. Even the 10AM b/s ratio is showing between 7 and 10...so it should be soarable then?!

It's a little light wind for going big distance (which is what I have my eye on) so I think I'll stick local (O&R or Triangle).

See you out there.

I'm just so impatient....everytime I fly before the magic 2PM I get bit. :)

I was so itchin' to get some airtime and some XC that at 1:15 I couldn't resist anymore and took to the skies. I had two decent climbs and that was enough to sucker me into going on the course I chose - a 50KM triangle. I even set my flight computer for a 2PM start window (as if I was flying a comp) but I jumped the start anyways and headed North on course.

The Provincials are a great opportunity for experienced contest pilots to be challenged and new cross-country pilots to get experience in a relaxed, fun environment.

The contest will reunite the racing family and introduce fledgling race pilots and their crews into the fold. We plan to run two classes: 1) Club for those wishing to push their skills and gliders (handicapped); and 2) Novice, to introduce pilots to new competition flying or with classic performance gliders (also handicapped).

Look for an update at 10:30am (here or at XC Skies), I am betting the forecast will improve (lift wise). A bit breezy but if the lift is better, it'll be easier to stay up.

Another promising forecast gone down the toilet! I have no idea on what makes these forecasts different...all I know (or think I know) is that the RUC forecast is the most accurate...I suppose that is why they only publish it the morning-of.

I used the NAM forecast model last night...and compare the b/s ratio here of the NAM (left) vs the RUC (right) from this morning:
